About the event
This is an opportunity to see how I make my jewellery and sculpture. Lost wax casting is what brought humanity out of the stone age. It involves making something out of wax, encasing the wax in a plaster like investment material, melting the wax out which leaves a hollow space the exact shape and size of your original work of art, melting some metal and poring it into the hollow space. In this modern age, we can make out little wax object, send it away to Palloys in Sydney and it comes back a week later in the metal of your choice.
Even after 20 years, I still find it magical and get excited to get my pieces back from casting.
You are welcome to have a try at some techniques and keep your wax. If you want to get it cast in silver, there would be a cost of $70 per piece. The wax is soft and non-toxic and simply a mixture of beeswax and coconut oil.
